The Promises of God to Those Who Lost Their Job

There are times in our lives when, in a blink of an eye, everything we have worked hard for, vanishes.

Heartbroken, we ask ourselves if we can ever bounce back. We blame ourselves, we blame God, we start to hate life, and we search for meaning. But the promises of God always reveal that there is hope.

The Bible never hides the necessity of suffering and sacrifices. Throughout its stories, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, suffering has been consistent. Even the Son of God endured the most brutal physical, mental, and emotional pain.

But with the stories of tribulations come promises of hope. If today you lost all the things you have worked hard for and you try to search for light in the midst of these misfortunes, here are some of God’s promises you can hold on to:

Suffering is not Punishment

Jesus promises not just redemption but also suffering. But as people of God, we must put in our hearts that suffering is not punishment.

In the Bible, God allowed Job to suffer. He lost his fortune, his children, and his health even though he was righteous and pleasing to the eyes of God. God loved Job, and Job continued to love God despite all the discouragement and discomfort.

When Job lost his children and possession, Job “... stood up, tore his robe, and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped saying:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.”

In all this, Job did not sin or charge God with wrongdoing.…”

Job 1:20-22

There is so much wisdom we can learn from the life, suffering, and overall character of Job. The book of Romans acknowledges the function of suffering.

Promises of God

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;.. perseverance, character; and character, hope.”

Romans 5:3-4

We may wake up tomorrow with a heavy heart, with fear of bankruptcy and overwhelming debt, but stay rooted in God. He will guide you. In the book of Romans, we are reminded “… consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18)

Trust the Process: God Keeps His Promises

And God says,

“For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”.

Jeremiah 29:11

God encourages you to stay focused and remain steadfast in these piling misfortunes.

A friend of mine called me one time. He was in tears. The flood destroyed his restaurant. He told me he just started and hasn’t paid a quarter of the money he loaned from the bank.

A few months later, he started selling chili garlic in a jar. This business started selling fast. Eventually, he was able to fully recover from the loss. I asked him what he did, all he said was, “I prayed”.

Rely on the Promises of God

Jesus promises hope to the faithful. Keep this in your mind and heart.

These external unfortunate circumstances can never ruin your soul. Like a swimmer letting go and allowing the current of the water to keep him afloat, let your faith in God keep you afloat.

Losing the businesses you built with your blood, sweat, and tears may lead you to think of ending everything, even your life, but you can counter them with the promises of God. Remember that God keeps His promises. Once you start to truly believe in these promises, you will realize that with God, no challenges can bring you down.

Get Ready to Rebuild Yourself

It is okay to cry. When you finish dusting yourself up, take a deep breath, and pray to God.

Go through each of your struggles. Ask God to bless you with the right solutions. You will have an easier time solving each problem, knowing that you are not alone.

Understand that the ways of God are different. Your struggles will not simply vanish.

My friend’s bank loans did not magically disappear. Instead, he was able to endure and survive his problems.

Reality is that, the debt will still be there, the threat of bankruptcy will still be there, but your heavy heart and your fears will be replaced with hopefulness and love.

There is no longer pain in the loss and suffering. The promises of God have given you the inspiration to forge through life with courage and endure every obstacle.
