“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5
In recent years, Abby Johnson gained prominence in the U.S. National scene. But who is she? An abortion extremist? A sinner who managed to found her way back home? Or an ardent defender of the unborn? Now, let us dive into the life story of Abby Johnson.
Abby The Abortion Assistant
The story began in 2001. Abby started volunteering for Planned Parenthood clinics after seeing their booth on her college campus, despite being raised as a conservative pro-lifer.
From then onward, she identified as an extreme Pro-Choicer and worked at the Planned Parenthood clinic of Bryan, Texas.
She was a perfect candidate for the Pro-Abortion movement because of her conservative Christian background. In their minds, Pro-Abortion Christians give them legitimacy and persuasive power to pull others to their cause.
Abby liked her job. After all, she profited a lot and even became the employee of the year in 2008. Abby Johnson stated in her talk in OneLife LA that she always buttheads with Pro-Lifers in front of the clinic but they did not give up on her.
Beam me up, Scotty
Everything changed when the clinic placed abortion quotas. Abby wondered why. They were supposed to prevent abortions at all costs by offering alternatives like pills. When questioned, the abortionist told her that they do it for profit. That was strike one.
The next strike was when she was asked to help in an ultrasound-assisted abortion of a 13-week old fetus despite not having a license nor a medical certificate for it.
There, she saw how the fetus contorted as the abortionist sucked him with the vacuum while nonchalantly stating, “Beam me up, Scotty.”
She felt horrible for the first time in 8 years of working there. She stated:
“I could see that evil when I piece those parts together, right? I could feel it. When I would manipulate the parts of those babies.”

A Change of Heart
The last straw came when she wanted to prevent others from aborting their child but did not have the will to do so. One day it took its toll and made her physically ill.
Then for the first time in 8 years of no communication, Abby prayed to God with all her heart. Abby had enough. She left the clinic and went to the Pro-Lifers. Their meeting was awkward at first.
Tears began to fall as she admitted her sins. She expected them to shame her, to mock her, but they did not. Instead, they told her, “That’s over, it’s done.”
However, Abby still had hesitations to leave because she would lose her source of income. But then her soon to be allies contacted people that could give her a job. Then Abby left the clinic when a job was guaranteed for her.
A Face for the Pro-Life Movement
The abortion clinic brought her to court afterward, but the judge tossed the case aside. Though she won the case, Abby lost friends and acquaintances who did not support her change of mind.
But in the long run, she gained more than she lost. Then she began volunteering with the Coalition for Life.
As the years passed, Abby Johnson became one of the faces of the Pro-Life movement. In 2011, she released her first book titled Unplanned, which had a movie adaptation in 2019, and followed by The Walls Are Talking, released in 2016.
In 2012, she converted to Roman Catholicism. Abby Johnson runs an anti-abortion ministry named And Then There Were None (ATTWN) with her husband Doug. It is a group that seeks to end abortion from the inside and out of the USA.
From that point, hundreds, if not thousands, left Pro-Choice and reformed because of Abby Johnson. She even spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention in support of Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.
To this date, Abby Johnson remains as a firm bulwark that defends the unborn from the forces that push to kill them.
